Jaguar XKR Convertible ![]() "The XKR is what it ought to be: a fast, well-crafted, and hyper-attractive gran turismo that serves up a well-synthesized blend of sports and luxury car.” - Motor Trend Magazine In 1961, Jaguar launched what would become one of the world’s most revered and recognizable automotive icons – the magnificent E-Type, or XKE as it was known in this country. This striking sports car is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful designs of all time. So stunning was the E-Type that even Enzo Ferrari pronounced it “the most beautiful car ever made”. This beauty lives on in the E-Type’s descendant – the XKR. Designed by Ian Callum, who also designed Aston Martin’s uncommonly handsome DB7 and Vanquish models, the latest Jaguar XKR maintains the classic design cues of the E-Type, but adds an incredibly stiff and lightweight aluminum body, potent drivetrain, exhaust note of pure aural bliss, lovely be-leathered interior and a remarkably well calibrated suspension. It all adds up to an alluring automobile that is a pure joy to drive. It is also very fast. The shapely XKR is powered by a strapping, supercharged 4.2L V-8 producing 420 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of neck-straining torque. Mash the go-pedal into the soft wool carpet and this automotive supermodel will kick off her heels and dash to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. Despite its considerable performance potential, the XKR is not a hard-core sports car. Rather, this curvaceous cat is a chic luxury cruiser that is the perfect choice for whisking two people and their luggage off to some weekend getaway. Distances will quickly melt away as the XKR effortlessly reels in the mile markers; once there, put the top down and enjoy alfresco motoring to the beguiling sound of the XKR’s sonorous V-8 soundtrack. |
