The 911 was introduced in 1964 as a larger and more powerful replacement for the 356 – Porsche's first production sports car. Like the 356, the 911 had a rear-mounted, air-cooled engine – a layout that can be attributed to founder Ferdinand Porsche's original design for the VW Beetle in the 1930’s.  The first 911 Turbo (Type 930) debuted at the Paris Auto Show in 1974. Sporting the iconic "Whale-Tail" rear spoiler and offering blistering performance, the Turbo quickly became the quintessential sports car and the very personification of Porsche.
