Porsche 911 Turbo

"It's easy to see why people feel that there is no substitute for a Porsche after driving the 911 Turbo. This car seems to have it all, incredible performance, a high level of comfort and meticulous German engineering.” - Road & Track Magazine

It is easy to run out of superlatives when describing Porsche’s 911 Turbo – siren-song engine note…vault-like solidity…blinding speed…crushing acceleration…never-fade brakes…flawless steering…classic lines…rich heritage – but it is the totality of the package that mesmerizes here. The Turbo is capable of stunning levels of performance, but it is also a practical supercar offering one of the most satisfying driving experiences available; all wrapped in a timeless shape of design perfection.

The 911 was introduced in 1964 as a larger and more powerful replacement for the 356 – Porsche's first production sports car. Like the 356, the 911 had a rear-mounted, air-cooled engine – a layout that can be attributed to founder Ferdinand Porsche's original design for the VW Beetle in the 1930’s.  The first 911 Turbo (Type 930) debuted at the Paris Auto Show in 1974. Sporting the iconic "Whale-Tail" rear spoiler and offering blistering performance, the Turbo quickly became the quintessential sports car and the very personification of Porsche.

Now with 480 horsepower and a bottomless well of stump-pulling torque, the sixth-generation (Type 997) Turbo is a land-rocket. When the variable geometry, twin-turbochargers slam their 15 pounds of boost into the flat-six “boxer” engine, you’ll feel like you’ve just been rear-ended by the space shuttle. The boxer’s snarling, square-wave soundtrack produces an exhaust note of pure pandemonium. Acceleration times are stupendous – the Turbo pulls like a freight train and never wants to stop. The Turbo’s steering is absolute magic, the brakes perhaps even more impressive. This car feels faultless and will make you smile. No matter your mood, the Turbo will make it better.

While a few select supercars can outperform the Turbo in one area or another, no other vehicle extant can match its sublime blend of lasting beauty, race-car performance, everyday practicality and, most of all, that endearing connection between car and driver.

Porsche, there really is no substitute.
